This project begins with the historical case of footbinding in China and looks at how women’s bodies shift from direct violence in the past to more hidden forms of discipline in contemporary life, and further become objects of being looked at, corrected, and displayed within social media environments. The research focuses especially on public display, exploring how women’s bodies move from “being looked at” to more active self-display, and how this display gradually becomes a repeated habit through platform feedback, even starting to feel like a personal choice. Based on this research, the work takes live performance as its core form, combined with moving image, sound, and sculpture to present the body moving between pressure, compliance, struggle, and display.
