One cannot see the wood for the trees
Production year: 2023
Mediums: Installation, moving image

This project examines creative industry workers, using interviews and shadow research to explore shifts in the power dynamics between labour and capital in the post-Fordist transition of work production.

I found that while the creative industries’ mobility and diversity seem to reduce the alienation of workers from mechanical labour, the details and structure of work increasingly intrude on their private time and space. Although work provides individuals with identity and fulfilment, it entangles labour with emotion, as economic considerations gradually permeate all aspects of life and relationships.

I created a chaotic narrative space using video, sound, and mixed-material installations to reflect on this. This space highlights the unstable interaction of emotion and value judgement within economic environments, critiquing the hidden brutality behind ideals of a “better life” and “progress through labour.”
